Stainless Steel SS 309 is austenitic stainless steel used for its excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, and creep resistance. The lower nickel content improves resistance to sulfur attack at high temperatures; the material is highly resistant towards sulfuric acids. It is sturdy and ductile and durable, and can be readily fabricated, machined, has good weldability. SS 309S is the low-carbon version of SS 309 and is highly recommended for applications where sensitization, and subsequent corrosion by high-temperature gases.
